Former France international Emmanuel Petit says Paul Pogba should not leave Manchester United because of his relationship with Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils boss stripped Pogba of the vice-captaincy after the Frenchman criticised his team’s playing style in September.
And former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Petit thinks Pogba, who has been linked with a return to Juventus, should fight for his place at Old Trafford.
He said: “I don’t know about the future of Paul Pogba. I still believe when you come back to a club you left, this is because you have a good reason to come back.
“I think the story between Manchester United and Pogba is not finished. If he leaves at the end of the season just because of his relationship with his manager, for me, that’s not a good reason.
“Manchester United is bigger than the problem they have together.”
Mourinho has been criticised for failing to get the best out of Pogba since his £90million move from Juventus in 2016.
The midfielder starred for France in their World Cup-winning campaign last summer, but has not replicated his international form with his club.
Petit, a World Cup winner with France, added: “Well, even if Jose Mourinho has been living with criticism and big pressure recently, I still believe he’s one of the best managers in the world.
“He has won so many trophies – he repeats that in the press conferences. They won the Europa League last year – they won a trophy where all the managers didn’t win anything.
