Bryce Harper is taking his talents to Philadelphia. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman first reporting Thursday afternoon on Twitter that the star would go to Philadelphia for what Heyman later revealed to be a $330 million, 13-year contract. Breaking News: Harper, Phillies reach agreement:

Harper has his record deal, with the $330 million topping the $325 million Giancarlo Stanton got in his November 2014 pact with the Miami Marlins. The Phillies have their star, the type of player they absolutely had to sign after owner John Middleton began the offseason promising to spend “stupid” money.

Philadelphia locked itself into 13 long years of Harper—there are reportedly no opt-outs, and he was given a no-trade clause. Sure, during the early portion of the pact Philly will get him for a reasonable $25 million a year if he continues to produce at a similar offensive clip.

Harper, who finished last season with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs, spent his first seven MLB seasons with the Nationals. He’s a six-time All-Star and won the MVP award in 2015.

Harper landed with the Phillies isn’t necessarily a surprise. Harper might have had hopes of signing with the Yankees or Dodgers, but the two franchises with big-spending ways in their not-too-recent pasts never seemed to generate many rumors that they were interested in the six-time All-Star — at least not at agent Scott Boras’ price.

The Phillies have already upgraded their roster, but they may not be finished adding players. Philadelphia has been linked to 2015 Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel and seven-time All-Star closer Craig Kimbrel, both of whom remain free agents.

Harper’s presence should rejuvenate the Phillies fan base. Time will tell if Harper can help the Phillies win a World Series. After all, he will have 13 years to do it.
